Is (self‐)reflection a form of intentionality? Sartre's dilemma
نویسندگان
چکیده
Sartre maintains that “all consciousness is of something.” Idiosyncratically, he also understands this “intentionality principle” to entail what “of” necessarily distinct from it (or “outside of” it, or “transcendent to” it). Nonetheless, all conscious of—or rather, “(of)”—itself in a non-intentional (in his terms: “non-positional/non-thetic”) manner. Given non-positional/thetic self-consciousness not intentional, evidently immune the “difference” principle, but less clear with respect self-reflection (which simply calls “reflection”). It seems impossible for reflection be “intentional” because intentionality entails difference—yet problematic consider “non-intentional” then becomes difficult distinguish as such inherently “unreflective”). This can called Sartre's “dilemma reflection.” While alternate between portraying intentional and (it generally appears like former), paper argues should conceived both according different respects. By piecing together various passages texts drawing out their implications, shown have resources an answer own dilemma.

متن کاملIntentionality detection and "mindreading": why does game form matter?
By around the age of 4 years, children "can work out what people might know, think or believe" based on what they say or do. This is called "mindreading," which builds upon the human ability to infer the intentions of others. Game theory makes a strong assumption about what individual A can expect about B's intentions and vice versa, viz. that each is a self-interested opponent of the other and...
